What if other children were favored over your child at the school he or she attended because of who those children were kin to? What if your child was treated differently from other children because you and your family did not support the actions of a former school adminstrator, but the other children's families did? What if this treatment was detrimental and damaging to your child? Would you leave your child in such a school? Most parents would not.
No student in an educational setting should suffer from favoritism, discrimination, or nepotism. Favoritism and discrimination are against the law; however, just because it is against the law doesn't mean it won't happen. Just because the law is against nepotism--favoritism shown to relatives in employment issues--doesn't mean it doesn't happen, too.
Many instances--some extemely shameful-- of nepotism, favoritism, and discrimination against both children and adults occured under the tenure of former 2006/2007 Cranfills Gap School Superintendent Carla Sigler. Students left in droves when parents chose not to tolerate such treatment of their kids or other children. Some parents felt if adults were treated that way, kids might be, too.
Carla Sigler went back to Alaska in 2007. Now that she is gone, many parents would love to send their kids to the Cranfills Gap School, but will not do so for several reasons. Carla Sigler still has strong ties to Cranfills Gap and visits occasionally. Her influence is still widespread. The school board and the school itself is full of those---administrators, staff, teachers, and even students-- who still rabidly defend her every action, even when it has been proven how detrimental those actions were to the school and the town.
These concerned parents feel their children might be discriminated against and other children favored because of Carla Sigler or who they might not be kin to or friends with. These concerned parents are not willing to take the chance that nepotism, favoritism, and discrimination might hurt their children. And who can blame them?

I would just like to say that your a sick lady! You need to get a life and quit harrassing the Gap ----- where you don't even live. Your not here to see what is going on you are listening to hear say. I wished that you would at least get the facts right.
Shelly, just two weeks before Mr. Scott said the Gap School was in big trouble enrollment-wise, you publicly stated that the school was doing fine and that things were just great! You are in denial, Lady! You are the one who doesn't know the facts. You only believe your spin (or whatever Carla says) and not the truth. I don't have to live there to know the facts. I had friends there (and still do!) way before you came to town.
You are obsessive. Definition: verb (used with object) 1. to dominate or preoccupy the thoughts, feelings, or desires of (a person); beset, trouble, or haunt persistently or abnormally.
–verb (used without object) 2. to think about something unceasingly or persistently; dwell obsessively upon something.
In your post you say that "administrators, staff, teachers, and even students" defend Carla's actions. Well, there is only one administrator on staff and he didn't even know Carla. As far as staff, teachers, and even students, I don't hear anyone still talking about Carla except for you. Some of us don't like you or your sister and didn't particularly care for Carla. The line is not cut and dry.
I seriously doubt horselady is Shelly Stuart. I don't think she would give you the time of day. You think you are so witty and smart.
If the school closes down, the blood of this tragedy will be on your's and your sister's hands. "Out damn spot". You have done all you could to kill the spirits of the good people of the Gap, and despite your efforts, you have not broken their spirits. Mr. Scott's report was a blow to everyone, but nothing that wasn't a concern under Dyes and Siegler (with your sister on the board). You and your sister have done everything you can to underhand this year's administration. Despite your efforts the community and the school have moved forward. That is what Shelly meant in her public comments. I would not be surprised if we end up losing Mr. Scott because of your sister's constant medling into his business. Who needs an admiinistrator when you have Sue Lee. She might as well go get her certificate and run the school--oh and you could be her right hand "man" since you are so all knowing. There is not a school district in Texas that doesn't have nepotism taking place. Especially when the school in town is the main employer. Who cares? You act like we are unique in this regard.
My uncle came in from Idaho and read your blog, from beginning to end. I asked him to come to a conclusion without knowing any facts. He finished. Yawned. Then said, "Wow, this lady is a loon". That sums it all up!
What a great country we live in! Everyone is entitled to his own opinion! have a nice day! TOODLE-O!!!!!
Heard you went to the CG graduation ceremony. Also heard Dr. Sigler spoke. Any pearls of wisdom for us?
Why do you delete my questions? I just wondered what your thoughts were?
To Another Norwegian: See my new entry blog of June 1st, 2008 for my graduation thoughts. Also, what are you talking about.... I don't recall deleting your comment...what was your question?
