The following Letter to the Editor appeared in the June 4th, 2008 issue of the Bosque County News. My letter is a response to the May 28th, 2008 Letter to the Editor written by Katie Rose Glenn. Katie, a Cranfills Gap alumni who recently married and is expecting her first child soon, did the Cranfills Gap graduation ceremony slideshow of the Class of 2008.
Katie is heavily involved in the Gap school and the town and is the daughter of Jeff and Laura Rose (Whom I have written about on this blog). Katie is also older sister to Janie Rose, who graduated this year. Katie is also the niece of Kathie and David Witte and kin to Janet Cox (All of whom I have written about on this blog, too!)
Katie's letter said to stand up for the Gap school and town and blamed any troubles Cranfills Gap might be having on the media and citizens bickering and congregating at the gas station, as well as on ridiculous reports and ridiculous behavior in the past year.
I disagree with Katie as to why Cranfills Gap school and the town of Cranfill's Gap are having all these problems, so I wrote an answer to Katie's letter. My response to her letter appears below:

"GAP CONTROVERSY CONTINUES"
In her letter, "Stand up for the Gap", (May 28, 2008), Katie Glenn blames the current woes of Cranfills Gap on everyone but the correct culprit, the 500-pound gorilla in the room that no one will talk about, former 2006/2007 Cranfills Gap Superintendent Carla Sigler.
Bitter division in the community and low school enrollment can be laid squarely at the feet of Carla Sigler. Her policies of nepotism, discrimination, favoritism, and malicious retaliation, as well as her failure to handle school and teacher issues, drove many students away from the Gap school, never to return.
Sigler returned to Alaska in 2007, but comes back to the Gap to visit friends. Her influence is still widespread. The school board, the school, and the town itself are full of Sigler supporters who deny she had any detrimental effect at all.
An end to the controversy is a truly worthy goal to strive for. That may never happen, however, because, as one Sigler supporter down at the local feedstore bluntly put it, "Too much has happened. It will never be over!"
NOTE: I wrote this Letter to the Editor before Carla Sigler came to town and gave the Gap High School Graduation speech. I had no idea when I wrote the letter that Sigler's speech about monkeys and her words to live by would fit in with my letter (Gorilla!) so well.
Thus, I leave you with these wonderful words of wisdom from the infamous Carla Sigler herself :

I read Katie's letter to the editor. She did not blame anyone for anything. She only said it's time for all this to stop and move on. And more than anything she asked those that are spending their time talking and not doing to stand up and do. I see nothing wrong with that. She only wants people that have a problem with the way things are going to stop talking and start doing. She never blamed anything on anyone. She just said that the things you mentioned aren't helping the situation and it's time for it all to stop.
How do you know so much about her as it is? As I understood it from her at graduation she didn't know you from Adam.
Katie failed to mention the real reason for the controversy---Carla Sigler. People need to know what Carla Sigler and her friends hath wrought! Put the blame where the blame belongs! Katie's wedding was in the paper, there was a letter to the editor about it also, and Saturday night at graduation, she looked like she was "heavy in foal", as Shelly would say in the horse vernacular. Also saw her on TV last June when she was pointing out that participating in graduation was a "privilege, not a right". No mystery to how I know so much about Katie---anyone could know as much. Nothing wrong with that.
That's true. I just wondered if you'd actually met her or what. You're right, there's nothing wrong with that. Didn't say there was.
I still think you need to re-read her letter. She never says anything about controversy. And, I believe she's not really even discussing anything that has to do with Carla. What does that have to do with her bringing up the City Council? I think she's just acknowledging that it all just started last year and it's kept going with out needing to. She only wants what the rest of us want, "The key is that we need to encourage, not discourage."
As someone who is not a community member in Cranfills Gap, why do you care if this is what those who are community members want?
Well, just What is it Katie wants STOPPED if not controversy?????....she doesn't say that outright..she does say there is AGITATION....in time and with practice, Katie may write a better letter, but this one was way too long and not to the point..anyone not familiiar with the controversy, division, school problems,etc THAT STARTED WITH CARLA SIGLER'S REIGN--- would not have a clue what the heck she is talking about. A Promising writer..but not there yet. And by the way, My vested interest in the matter is a child named Kaitlan.
Also, why not put the truth out there? The truth harms only those who don't want the truth known, and the truth is that the majority of the woes facing Cranfills Gap school and town right now were caused in great part by Carla Sigler and how she and her friends treat their fellow man. Do you wish to lie by omission, to not even mention Carla Sigler's role in all this CONTROVERSY???? NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!!!
Controversy never ends. She wants, again, what we all want, for people to stop living in the past. She acknowledged that we're never all going to get along or agree on everything. But nobody ever has. That doesn't mean that people have to continue living in the past. Why not just say "It happened. It's over. Nothing will change it. Let's move on."
Why do you cut her down for wanting what's best for her community and her school?
Never in all the years that Cranfills Gap has existed has there been controversy and such a permanent division in the community as what Carla Sigler caused in 2006/2007. You yourself won't even acknowledge it! You dance all around the issue..afraid of Carla and her friends---heck, you are her friend who will deny the truth til your very last breath. Let me put it this way: Carla Sigler destroyed things and people--children included-- in a criminal, despicable, and corrupt way, very similar to murdering something and someone. There are those who say Oh, Just sweep it under the rug...let's forget that something and someone was murdered..let's just go on with our lives...we weren't the ones who suffered--what do we care?---we deny we saw a thing....so just forget it and go on and let that murderer have a nice rest of their life? NEVER GONNA HAPPEN!!!
How do you know that in "all the years Cranfills Gap has exisited" that there has never been anything like this? Have you yourself lived here since the town's establishment?
Was there controversy when Carla was here? Yes. Could she have done some things different? Yes. She is not perfect. However, she never did anything that she knew was going to hurt a student and she cared more about the kids at the Gap than any administrator has in a very long time. But what about Kevin Dyes, HENRY LIND, Murry Wise, and all the ones before Carla? Was there controversy when they were here Yes! Could they have done some things differently? Yes. Did they make mistakes? Yes! Some of those situations were much worse than this. Why don't we hear about them still though? Why didn't we hear about them then like we did with all that happened when Carla was here? Because those involved chose to handle it the correct way. They took care of it privately and chose not to disgrace the face of the town and the school by flaunting it over and over and never letting it die. Our school is STILL dealing with problems caused by Henry Lind, but nothing can be done to change it except move on and deal with it the best we can, so that is what is being done.
Hey, Darlin', all those other MINOR controversies Never divided the town permanently like Carla has.. PERMANENTLY=-- and now you have inspired me to write a blog entry about how Carla Sigler broke the law many times and the Cranfills Gap school board members You -know-who- they -are also broke the law just to hurt a child. How despicable is that? To knowingly hurt a child, a student under their care. Your ignorance is my inspiration...Thanks!
You are almost right about one thing..You say Carla Sigler really cared about the students --only you should have said Carla Sigler really cared about CERTAIN students, mostly the good looking young boys she kissed on the neck. Many times it is the ones you least expect who are the sexual predators. Why was Carla Sigler allowed to get away with doing that? Parents did not complain, and I know young boys would not complain about a hot wet kiss on the neck. Would have put a tingle from the top of the head all the way down to the toes and parts in between....and what hot-blooded male wouldn't love that, young or old? Come to think of it, I did see her kissing a lot of the older males, too, on the neck and on the lips...and good old Abraham had her scooped up in a hot clinch right after graduation, when they thought everyone had left, so I guess she did care a lot. Do you know why no one complained about Carla Sigler kissing male students on the neck? Maybe you can give me some insight.
I love the way everyone is jumping up to defend Carla Sigler's hot wet kisses on the neck! Way to go!
Guess you and your sister are happy now. Just heard that she has run off her fourth superintendent. I read a copy of his resignation letter and it was plain that you and she were the reason he is leaving. Way to go.
Way to go, Mr. Scott! In my opinion, you were wasted in that den of thieves and liars and hypocrites and lawbreakers, to name a few! Actually, my sister is NOT happy that honest ethical Mr. Scott is throwing in the towel--quite the contrary, and she is entitiled to her opinion. I, on the other hand- --I am ecstatic!!! I believe Mr Scott sees it is useless, as it takes TWO factions to resolve controversy, and you folks think you did nothing wrong, though it is plain as the wart on your nose that you did do wrong, and you want to pretend there is no controversy to be resolved...just forget it ---sweep it under the rug, like a MURDER you say you never saw and deny happened!!!! Yes, let those murderers continue on their merry way, enjoying life to the fullest, without any accountability whatsoever. NOT GONNA HAPPEN as long as I have a say about it. On that same note, if you don't like the way things are going in the Gap, why don't you just stay away?
